Don't Think You Have to Put Up with Oily Skin Any Longer!

by Lisa Sampson

Combination and oily skin may seem very different, but they do share some common points. For example, they both require similar forms of acne care, which means they can both be treated using common skin care products.

The best way of dealing with this problem is to establish a regular cleansing routine. With mild to moderate cases of acne (facial and back acne), a regular cleansing routine can be more effective than over the counter acne creams. However, keep in mind that severe forms of acne should be monitored and treated by a medical professional.

First Step: How to Best Cleanse Your Acne Prone Skin

Soapy cleansers containing salicylic acid or retinol are ideal for both skin types and also a good way of helping stabilize the production of sebum and reduce clogged pores.

Now, please don't confuse "soapy" with soap and water, they are not the same thing. In fact, using soap and water to cleanse your skin will most likely dry it out, unlike a soapy cleanser. Extra sebum protection is the result of extra dryness. This then will lead to more pores that are clogged in addition to more acne lesions.

Although it is not widely known, you can beat oily skin with the use of an organic acne solution. One of the best natural cleansers for oily skin is milk of magnesia. To use it, just rub it on your skin and rinse it off.

Second Step: Exfoliate and Tone Your Skin

A daily cleansing routine may require a toner. However, it might not be necessary if your cleanser is capable of removing makeup, residue and extra sebum. If at any point you decide that using a toner is necessary, make sure that it is alcohol free.

Exfoliating, on the other hand, is a must with oily and combination skin. You should exfoliate once a week. If you find that your skin is still a bit dull, then you can try exfoliating twice a week.

Fortunately, both oily and combination skin can resist facial scrubs. However, you should be gentle and use a small amount of product. Also keep in mind that excessive scrubbing will cause your body to produce more sebum, just as with excessive cleansing.

Third Step: Use the Appropriate Moisturizer

Even though you might not think it, even oily and combination skin types require the use of a moisturizer. These types of skin need a moisturizer for the same reason any skin does. However the type of moisturizer is recommended to be light and water based so it does not overly coat your skin.

Extra Step: Treat Acne with the Best Natural Acne Cream

Regarding making your skin regimen a complete one, find an acne spot treatment. This will help you increase the effectiveness of your routine while simultaneously minimizing the irritation to healthy skin.
