Ice-Pick Scars - How to treat them

by Clarita Milles

If you ever complained about that ugly scar you got when learning how to ride your bike, then you'll be surprised to learn that it's actually the body's natural protective process.

A scar is created when collagen that is produced by the body arranges itself on the wound in order to repair and protect it from infection. In simple terms, a scar is the body's natural "band-aid"; however, it isn't always the most attractive one.

Because each body is different the healing process will vary. This means that you may have a cut that heals leaving behind a thick scar while a friend may have had the same cut, yet no scarring. However, if scarring has formed your skin may develop an elevated or indented scar. In the case that you are one of the lucky few, you may have developed a non-inflammatory acne breakout which leaves behind very little scar tissue. One the other hand, if you do notice pus-filled pimples surrounded by cysts then you are surely headed towards a scar.

Ice-pick Scars - Treatment

Ice pick scars are deep and very narrow scars that develop after an infection from a cyst or other deep inflamed blemish has worked its way to the surface. This type of scar resembles a small hole in your skin or a very large pore. It is the worst type of scar because of the emotional pain it causes the sufferer.

Unluckily enough, this type of scar has limited treatment:

Punch excision and grafting: The only effective treatment for deep ice pick is to completely remove the scar with a surgical procedure. Larger scars are filled with a skin graft after the removal process has been completed. This means that a piece of skin is removed from another area of the body and placed over the operated area. Once that is done the area is contoured with dermabrasion to blend it into the rest of the skin.

Laser resurfacing: This type of treatment gives you a soft and smooth skin surface by literally removing (lasering off) superficial areas of skin. This technique is one of the most useful types of treatment for acne scarring, but also one of the most expensive.

Most people have gone through these treatments to no avail. What they don't know is that there is one more option that is both safe and effective and won't burn a hole in their pocket - natural acne scar removal treatments.

You may not be fully convinced that a topical treatment can be as effective as other known procedures such as dermabrasion. Even more unreal is thinking that a topical product can actually get rid of scars or treat the ever dreadful ice-pick scar, but you'd be surprised what the right natural treatment can do. Products that contain a revolutionary natural ingredient called Helix Aspersa Muller Glycoconjugates have been effective in treating pitted acne scars, rolling scars, and acne scarring. Always keep in mind; treating a scar effectively is all about finding the right product, not the most expensive.
